Knowing Oppo you'll all already be thinking "Why? Why customize a CR-V? It's a crossover... and so beige... total waste of effort."
Well, it's all the car I'm going to get, at least according to my mother. This is her old car, and she'll be getting another CR-V, just newer. Can't see why, honestly.
I've ended up with Aston Martin Volcano Red paint, Brembo discs front and back to replace the old car's factory discs and drums, additional chrome details to set off the two-tone paintjob, and BBS RK wheels. Subtler mods include a largely "pillarless" look- easily the least expensive to pull off, all I'll need is a couple thousand cans of Plasti-Dip.
Here's an alternate paint color- something much more understated and- critically- resalable. The pillarless look is really obvious with silver paint for some reason...
I'd probably put a custom exhaust on it (I'm keeping the original jewel of a VTEC sound, just adding in a bit more low end and making it a bit louder), and definitely drop it. Perhaps even chop it.
Just to be clear: I haven't done any of these things to the car yet. It's still her DD, and having it trussed up at the bodyshop would mean I'd miss all my classes and she'd miss... I dunno... important mom stuff.

Don't do it. Save your money for when you can buy something you want.

You know the BBS RK wheels are worth more than an entire CR-V?

Agreed with mr the engineer. Some tasteful mods are fine but don't spend arguably 5 times the cars value on mods on what will still amount to a small SUV. save your money for when you have something nice that you like, there is really no way to modify a CRv without looking rice-y
My first car was an ML320 (1999) and I had big dreams for it as well. Once I got my 944 the ML simply became a reliable daily driver with some tasteful mods :)

There's doing a custom CR-V wrong, then there's doing a custom CR-V right...

I'm poor because I spent all my money on my first car.

Customize the vehicle to fit in context.
That being said, I'm probably going to just get it wrapped in the kind of satin-finish silver they used on the really, really old Mercs. I'm thinking the Volcano Red is way too flashy.

Just my opinion, but:
Repaint = expensive
High end brakes and converting rear drums to discs = expensive
New wheels & tires = expensive
Exhaust and lowering kit = expensive
I'd save all that money and sock it away for the purchase of something you really want.
Again, just my opinion.

"no way to modify a CR-V without looking rice-y"
that being said I do get your point... first job I get, it's all going towards a new car. VTEC engine aside, the CR-V is a piece of dogshit from a dynamic and aesthetic perspective

Don't put BBS wheels on it, Save your money instead of customizing a CR-V with expensive German wheels.
Plus Brembo brakes are about $6,000 or something like that.

My dad and I went to the Colorado sand dunes in his 05 silver CRV a number of years ago. Its a very capable vehicle, in my opinion the most capable CRV

as said before, don't waste your money. People will think you're a giant tool if you are rolling around in a CR-V with a fart can exhaust and wheels.

Here's one that' s been liberally modded by use of a wall:
Now tell me that that doesn't look like a pile of twisted metal and not a rice rocket!
AMGtech - now with more recalls!

Holy crap, that looks great! I would probably be ok with owning that, but it would have to have a complete badge delete.
Black steelies and big tires make just about everything look better.

Try spending your money fixing the idiotic "we don't want to discomfort old people" air intake restrictions and reprogramming that damn ECU.
